Associated Ministries Walk

poverty-in-washingtonEach year a dedicated team from St. Andrew’s joins over 1,000 volunteers at Fort Steilacoom Park to walk and raise funds to feed hungry families in Pierce County. The Hunger Walk takes place in early October.

Half of the proceeds benefit the Emergency Food Network (EFN), Pierce County’s non-profit distribution center for more than 70 food banks, hot meal sites and shelters. The Walk itself is a celebration of dedication and generosity, drawing volunteers from many faith traditions. Besides water, snacks and support, there is also live music and information booths on outreach efforts and opportunities to volunteer.

Beginning in September one or two volunteers coordinate the distribution of sign-up sheets. The goal is to recruit parishioners willing to walk, support the walkers, or raise funds among friends in the wider community. In the past our youth have played a key role in these efforts.
