The Return of Quiz Night – Jill Nguyen

Quiz Night made a triumphant return this year with many teams competing for the coveted trophy. Over 50 of us gathered on that fateful Saturday night and we raised nearly $1,600 together! As a first-time Quiz Night competitor, I was very surprised to discover that the last place team gets to choose one of the categories for next year’s Quiz Night. While everyone else eyed the trophy, Kendall and I were secretly eyeing the last place spot (for the record: we did not try to lose!). Alas, Joan, and Tom put together too strong of a team because we ended up in second place. Better luck next year!

It was so much fun for me to see everyone dressed up in less formal attire. I thought the Slumber Party team had the cleverest theme because I’m a huge fan of naps and sleeping. But my favorite part of Quiz Night was spending time with everyone outside of our regular Sundays together. The night reminded me of what God wants for each of us and His many blessings on our parish:

“There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God, for apart from him who can eat or who can have enjoyment?” (Ecclesiastes 2:24-25)

Seeing everyone come together in fellowship on Quiz Night and enjoying one another’s company was special. As a recovering workaholic, it was a gentle reminder for me that God blesses us with both His provision and the opportunities in our lives to have fun. I have been very fortunate to have toiled alongside many cheerful faces in the various ministries at St. Andrew’s. I pray that we can continue to enjoy our toil together, as well as the fruits of our labor with one another.
